Description:  Carlson McCain is seeking a hydrogeologist or environmental engineer to lead work involving groundwater / surface water / wastewater monitoring and reporting, geologic and hydrogeologic characterization and related activities surrounding permitting and compliance for facilities in the solid waste, power utility, water supply, mining, and agricultural sectors.

Duties:

  • Track monitoring and reporting deadlines for multiple sites.
  • Coordinate routine sampling events; direct and oversee related staff activities.
  • Review and analyze groundwater, surface water, and/or wastewater monitoring data, including performing geospatial and statistical analysis.
  • Lead/manage subsurface investigation projects.
  • Prepare written technical reports and supporting exhibits including summary tables and figures.
  • Provide professional opinions and recommendations based on monitoring results.
  • Assist with development of response actions and corrective actions, if necessary.
  • Compile and organize field and laboratory data and utilize electronic database systems.
  • Review data for compliance with applicable rules and standards.
  • Communicate and collaborate with clients, contractors, laboratories, regulators, etc.
  • Write proposals for work with existing and prospective clients.
  • Participate in marketing and business development activities.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental Engineering, or related discipline.
  • At least 8 years experience in groundwater monitoring and environmental services.
  • Minnesota certification as Professional Geologist or Professional Engineer, or the ability to become certified within one year.
  • Experience with groundwater monitoring system design and data analysis.
  • Strong analytical aptitude and attention to detail.
  • Experience with GIS software and mapping applications.
  • Good time-management and ability to track hours for a variety of projects.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Clean driving record, and ability to drive a company vehicle as necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with state permitting programs including but not limited to: MPCA solid waste, NDDEQ solid waste, WYDEQ solid waste, MDH wellhead protection, MnDNR water appropriations, NPDES.
  • Experience with federal and state CCR rules.
  • Experience with statistical analysis of groundwater monitoring data and familiarity with EPA Unified Guidance for Statistical Analysis of Groundwater Monitoring Data.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and current refresher.

 

This position will be based out of our Plymouth, Minnesota office. The position can accommodate some remote work, and a hybrid work arrangement may be considered. The position will involve primarily office work but may require occasional fieldwork and offsite meetings with clients, regulators, etc., as well as occasional overnight travel as dictated by project schedules.
